Postcard from Yellowstone

Howdee all,

Just a quick post…We are driving into Gardner this morning to make phone calls and I am hoping to have broadband connection in order to post this.

 

We have been traveling with another couple who also have a motorhome..and enjoy hiking and fishing. Sicksta Charlene is staying with us and sleeping in her tent.

We are having a wonderful time in here in Yellowstone.

The weather has been perfect. Hiking has been excellent, Sicksta Charlene and I take evening soaks at the Hot springs in Boiling river.

We saw an amazing Double rainbow our first hike on the day we arrived.

We  Hiked to the top of Bunson Peak for awesome views.

Picked Porchini mushrooms (Boletus Edulus)

and have seen endless amounts of Buffalo in the distance  Near the Road

and in the road Two life birds for Jeff and I ..

Charlene and I had close encounters with deerand close encounters with a young coyote (in front of Jeff) Looking for dinner and not concerned with us. 

We have had elk in our campground.

Yesterday Charlene and I went to the hot springs and bathed with Elk around us….very cool ..wish I brought my camera.

We hiked to the top of Mt Washburn And to Cascade Lake

Jeff and Jimmy had an awesome fishing day yesterday, in the Lamar River Valley. Between the both they caught over 40 cutthroat trout all between 12 to 18 inches.

Jimmy and Jennifer left this morning and headed to the Grand Tetons..where we plan to meet them on Monday.

We have still not seen bear, Jeff and Jimmy saw a wolf yesterday.

A quick hello from us here in Yellowstone

We are having a great time.

And, surprisingly, I have had no internet withdrawal pains…

But I do miss talking to family and friends here in cyberspace….

Should have internet next Monday or Tuesday…

Pine Creek Lake Wildflowers

Howdee all,

Last post while we are away at Yellowstone.

I am typing this a half hour before we leave Livingston.

So I leave you with wildflowers…

From our Pine Creek hike. The hike was not as thick with flowers as Elephant peakAnd there were similar species and flowers Always a treat to see Indian Painbrush I am leaving a few for Sickstas to key out Thistle and Aster Don't know what this is.Paint brush and …?  Queen annes lace and Bee Balm Goodbye Pine creek….

Pine Creek Lake, Livingston,MT part 3

As most of you know I have no internet. I set up these posts to go out on a schedule via blogger.

These photos below are from the same Pine Creek hike….we made it to the top 5 miles up..over 3000 feet elevation gain.

Almost there…

it was a great hike, I would rate this moderate to difficult, though we did see some young adults hiking with less difficulty.

Pine Creek Lake,Livingston MT pt 2

Yipee! I made it to the third lake! We all made it… It was beautiful!  …a straight on viewThe lake facing right. Snow on the mountains.. The lake facing left…Swimmers on the far rock. Front again…but with clouds coming in…

Time for a nap..  Me..relaxing before the long….knee jerking hike back…Brendan viewing the scene with my binos…

Pine Creek Lake hike, Livingston, MT pt. 1

Howdee all,

This past Saturday we hiked Pine Creek Lake. Jeff and I and Sickstas family did this hike a few years back on July.  I remembered it as being a difficult hike.

There are three lakes on this hike.

Charlene and I didn't make it to the last two lakes  the last time we were here..Jeff and Tom went without us while we played with the kids in the snow.

This time around I was determined to make it to the top.

Jennifer, joins us for the hike.

She and husband Jimmy will travel with us for the next two weeks, in their motorhome. Jennifer is a hiker and will join us on our hikes, Jimmy loves to fish and Jeff will split his time between hiking and fishing.

This photo below looks back towards the valley we came from. Taking a much needed lunch break.

One way to the third lake is five miles.  So we have more hills to climb….Looking back down the trail ….. I think this is the one time we were able to hike down….and it didn't last long We finally made it to the first lake…no snow…See the waterfall?

The second lake feeds the falls…so we need to hike up more….
